President's message
The Goal of Muroran Institute of Technology
The broad leaf trees that fill the campus, located at the foot of Mt.
Muroran, remind students and visitors alike of the changing seasons. Surrounded
by the nature of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, we have continued to offer
education and research regarding creative scientific technology. With this
history behind us, 70 years have passed since this campus was settled here.
Since becoming an academic corporation, MuroIT has been training scientific technicians that can be internationally recognized. To that end all eight of the courses within the six undergraduate departments received certification by JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education). Even with the reorganization of the undergraduate departments at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, this certification will continue.
At the same time, fundamental research is being conducted in many unique
areas, such as environmental to science, disaster prevention technology,
kansei engineering and aerospace mechanical systems. The results of this
research are being presented both domestically and abroad. Joint research
with business industries is also very active, and MuroIT has been highly
evaluated among both public and private universities for its contribution
to small and mid-sized industries. Its presence is strongly felt in the
region.
Our focus for the future is interdisciplinary research with universities
both inside and outside of Japan. We hope the relationships between engineering
schools and departments will help to improve the quality of education and
sophisticate our research. We are also aiming to create new educational
programs and areas of research with our connections to non-engineering
schools and departments. We will continuously work on strengthening intercollegiate
networks, competitively and cooperatively. The challenges facing Muroran
Institute of Technology for activating our region and for reinforcing higher
education continue.
