College of Design and Manufacturing Technology consists of six research
units. The main objective of each research unit is as follows:

(1) Mechanical Science Unit deals with wind power generation, snow
utilization, multi-phase flow in turbomachinery, chemical/bio-reactors, shock
wave dynamics, high-speed fluid mechanics, combustion control, impact
engineering, biomechanics, dynamics of machinery, sound and vibration,
intelligent machining, fracture mechanics, deterioration of materials, and
structural mechanics/materials.

(2) Robotics unit deals with Robotics, control engineering, instrumentation,
biomedical optics, color management, machine design, fluid power, and power
transmission device.

(3) Aeronautics & Astronautics Unit deals with small-scale jet and rocket
engines, small-scale unmanned experimental airplanes, flight systems
technologies, and related ground and flight tests and numerical simulation.

(4) Materials Science Unit deals with materials science, solid state
chemistry, synthesis and processing of materials, materials surface and
interface, properties of stainless steels, corrosion science, solidification
and casting, ceramic materials, and environmental materials.

(5) Energy & Electronics Unit deals with electric energy, control, electrical
and electronic materials, devices, and measurements for the electrical and
electronic engineering.

(6) Information & Instrumentation Unit deals with optical instrumentation,
quantum measurement, electromagnetic fields analysis, computer engineering,
microwave engineering, and human informatics.
