Department of materials science and engineering was established in April 1990, because the Institute was reorganized by consolidating all previous Departments. Special emphasis is on the study of materials science and engineering, which produces fruitful and versatile application to high technology. The Department has been rapidly developed by highly
motivated students in cooperation with active faculty members. Stimulation for academic achievement is fairly intense.
Every year 100 students are admitted to the undergraduate program and 33 students to the master's program.
Education and research cover a wide field of materials science and engineering based on physics, chemistry, metallurgy,
geoscience and biology. Close association of students with faculty gives substantial training and instruction. Well qualified
graduates have flexibility for various works in a wide range of industrial activities.
